JEWELRY
Where is your jewelry made?
New York City. We design and hand carve all of our prototypes in our Queens studio and work with a small Manhattan caster who casts our pieces into precious metals. We then hand finish and polish each piece with a fine bristle brass brush and elbow grease to give each piece a sophisticated matte finish. Yes, it’s a process but we love it!
The finger hole of my ring is not a perfect circle, is it supposed to be like that?
Yes! We carve all of our wax prototypes by hand using hand tools, so circles will never be 100% perfect and we like it this way. The slopes, twists, and curves of our jewelry are guided by how we’ve envisioned the designs on paper and, perhaps more so how our hands interpret those drawings. We want you to be able to see and feel the hands that have worked on the pieces you acquire from us. To this end, although we strive for quality in all of our work, to us quality does not mean perfect symmetry, nor one piece being indistinguishable from the next piece. There will be slight differences between sizes and pieces since we hand carve our prototypes and hand finish all of our jewelry.
How do I know what size ring to order?
We size our rings based on the US standard and are working on a printable sizing chart. In the meantime, search online for ‘ring sizing chart’ to find guides that you can print out and wrap around your finger or that you can use to measure a ring you already own. Ensure that the Size 5 interior diameter is 15.7mm on any size guide you use. For sizing questions, please contact us at [email protected].
You don’t offer my ring size, is it possible for you to make my size?
If we do not have your size, we will try our best to accommodate a new size. This typically means that we have to hand carve a new wax prototype. Please be advised that this will require a lead time of 2-3 weeks and as with all of our jewelry pieces, this will be made to order and cannot be returned at this time.
CARE
Your Ordinary Objects jewelry will develop a rich, warm patina over time the more you wear them. Wearing your jewelry often will actually help avoid tarnish as the oils of your skin will help protect the silver. However, avoid wearing your jewelry while handling household chemicals and beauty products. When you are not wearing your jewelry, the best way to prevent tarnish is to store them individually in a plastic bag with the air removed. To clean your pieces, use a mild soap and warm water with a soft cloth or soft bristle tooth brush.
